A couple of weeks back the littlies and I were looking for a inside crafty activity to do together while it was wet outside. I remembered reading about a great activity in one of my millions of non-fiction (gardening, sewing, social science, political science) texts I borrow a lot of. It was a Kiwi book and the activity was a kind of DIY seed tape.
If you haven't heard of seed tape, well you can stop reading. Otherwise here's what we did.
First we made a flour and water paste. We brushed it over strips of eco-friendly toilet paper. It got pretty wet (which is okay), then we dotted on the pasted paper some seeds of choice. We chose daikon and carrot seed. Finally all we did was lay another dry sheet over the pasted and seeded sheet and then allowed it to dry.
I'm pleased to report that they are doing well. The daikon have their secondary leaves and the carrots have germinated too.

Once the sheets are dry you just roll them out into your garden and cover with soil and water.
