My little girl has been talking a lot about her love of the violin lately. It came up about two months ago, and is a continuing interest for her.
She has asked if I could find her someone who could teach her the violin. She also knows a lot about how to play already, considering she has only just this week touched one for the first time. She said the other day that 'it is important to put rosin on the bow before you play, to allow the bow to move smoothly across the strings to make a good sound'. Just for the record, I didn't tell her that. Sometimes she just blows me away!
We were at Nanny and Granddad's place and she was organising a band to play. They all had an instrument and the she decided that they also needed some music. She went off and wrote some music for them to play. The music above is what she came up with. After a couple of minutes she had three sheets like this one as 'music for the band'. It has taken me a couple of weeks to realise that I only showed her sheet music like this a couple of times and that was about three months ago when we were trying out a new music book with my ukelele.
Next year she can have some lessons and a violin of her very own. Until then she'll have to keep practicing with my ukelele and a piece of wood as her makeshift violin and bow. If anyone knows of a good classical violin teacher in West Auckland, please let me know.
