Yesterday our wonderful babysitter P and Sofia made a bird feeder for the poor winter birds in our garden. They seemed to rush every time we put out some bread for them, so last grocery shop I picked up some dripping and some seeds for creating something a little bird might love. All you need is a mesh bag, some bird seed (we chose wild bird seed mix), and some dripping.
Melt the dripping in a saucepan and add in the seed. Once it is mixed pour into a bowl lined with one of the mesh bags you see around. Leave to cool and once hard, string from a tree, and watch them flock.
We have seen many wax eyes/silver eyes in our garden since we hung it up. Even the more adventurous sparrow can get a nibble if they flap their wing and peck. It has been wonderful for the babies. : )
