Trees for Babies

Trees for Babies is a local Waitakere City initiative where parents with new babies in the City are invited to any one of a few local parks to plant a tree in honour and celebration of their child. The child receives a little citizen certificate signed by the Mayor and a chance to help beautify a local park. We wanted to get to a park closer to our place to plant one for Sacha, however we had some business to attend to over the last couple of weekends and we couldn't get there. Today we finally made it to one being held a park 15 minutes from our new house.

We planted a lancewood for Sacha. Sofia was happy because she had her face painted as a butterfly and got to play with some big boys on the bouncy castle. Mama was pleased because her new city is called Eco City and has free car seats and trees for Babies. Hooray for Waitakere!

This is fantastic...great idea. We will be celebrating Arbor day here in Greytown. We were the first in NZ to establish this day so it's kinda special here. xx

We have a children's forest in our town and it's been going for 25 years. We planted trees for both of our children, I think it's such a nice idea and I hope it continues after we become a "super city"
